A 50-meter competition pool, a diving well and an 1,800-seat natatorium, with air and water systems tuned for championship meets.
A natatorium is a building at war with its own air. Warm, chlorinated, humid air attacks steel, glass and ductwork, and a pool that is a few millimeters short or uneven cannot host a sanctioned meet. The design-build team had to deliver a competition pool, a diving well with platforms and an 1,800-seat bowl, with dehumidification, water treatment, timing systems and scoreboards tuned before the first championship.
The approach.

- 01
Built to resist the air
Coatings, vapor barriers and stainless fasteners were specified for the pool hall, and the envelope was tested for air leaks before the ceiling closed.
- 02
Lanes measured to the millimeter
The pool shell was surveyed after concrete, after tile and after filling, so every lane met competition length.
- 03
Air and water tuned together
Dehumidification, pool heating and water treatment were commissioned as one system and run for weeks before the first meet.
- 04
Timing and boards in the contract
Touchpads, timing consoles, scoreboards, sound and the venue network were installed and tested by our own systems team.
The outcome.
“Swimmers notice everything, the water, the air, the clock. We tuned all three before the first race.”
Superintendent, Tum Harry
