A nine-story children’s hospital tower with a pediatric ICU, family suites and a rooftop healing garden, built beside a hospital that never stopped admitting patients.
A children’s hospital does not get a quiet week. The new 312,000-square-foot tower had to rise beside an occupied campus, tie into its corridors, central plant and emergency power, and hold the tight air pressure and infection-control limits that a pediatric ICU depends on. Families would sleep in the suites, so nurse call, patient monitoring, wireless coverage and security had to work on the first night, not after a round of fixes.
The approach.

- 01
Infection control on every shift
Negative-pressure barriers, monitored anterooms and daily walks with the hospital’s infection-prevention team kept dust and noise out of the occupied floors next door.
- 02
A patient room built first
A full-scale ICU room and family suite were built and fitted out early. Nurses and families walked them, and changes were made before the rest of the floors were framed.
- 03
Tie-ins on the hospital’s clock
Every connection to the existing building, from medical gas to emergency power, was scheduled overnight with a written shutdown plan and a rollback ready.
- 04
Clinical technology in the same contract
Nurse call, patient monitoring networks, structured cabling, Wi-Fi and access control were installed and commissioned by our own systems team, so the floors were handed over working.
The outcome.
“Next door, children were sleeping. Every tie-in plan started with that, and every one finished before the morning rounds.”
