A five-level rental car center with fueling, car-wash bays and a covered link to the terminals, built beside an airport running at full traffic.
A rental car center is part garage, part service station and part terminal. The structure needed fueling positions, car-wash bays and maintenance areas tucked into the levels, plus a covered link to the terminals, all built next to roadways carrying airport traffic all day and night. Crane picks had to respect airspace limits, and the opening had to be phased so rental companies could move in without losing a day of business.
The approach.

- 01
Cranes cleared with the airport
Crane heights and locations were filed and approved in advance, with lights and radio contact set for every pick near the airfield.
- 02
Precast to keep the pace
Precast decks and columns were fabricated off site and set level by level, keeping the structure ahead of the weather.
- 03
Fuel and wash systems proven early
Fueling, wash water recycling and the garage ventilation were commissioned ahead of tenant fit-out, so rental companies moved into working bays.
- 04
Wayfinding and systems that talk
Space counting, signage, cameras, access control and the garage network were installed and tested by our own systems team.
The outcome.
“Every traveler who picked up a car during construction was a reminder that the airport was our neighbor, not our site.”
Superintendent, Tum Harry
